I am still at Fred Hutch, although due to the late time, I have been transferred to another building, where I’m now doing the irinotecan infusion. This part is 90 minutes and this started at 6pm. With some stuff to happen after this. Long day.
No big side effects currently, another than ongoing jitteriness apparently caused by my pre-chemo cocktail. And, fatigue and brain fog to the max, but … now sing it with me … “That’s what chemo’s all about!” (Sung to the tune of Hokey Pokey!).
So, let me leverage my current delirious chemo-addled condition to describe for you: this morning’s smoothie. I know people are curious. At least you, Tad! :). So here we go – try and guess what’s in there. All the ingredients revealed below!!!

In the smoothie (bottom to top, roughly):
- Some fine stone fruit action from our CSA, Collins Family Orchards:
- Delp Hale yellow freestone peach (a big’un!
- White donut peach
- Plum
- Avocado
- Nut butter (almond, walnut, Brazil nut)
- Pea protein powder
- Baby spinach (great way to get your veggies in a smoothie. Younger greens are less of an overpowering flavor).
- Strawberries
- Blueberries
- Agave syrup
- And then I poured in almond milk
End result looks like this:

That actually looks pretty good! You’re inspiring me to break out my blender and start experimenting.
“Like!”
Awesome! Yeah I’ve really been enjoying experimenting with smoothies lately. I did go through a similar phase, back in the (ahem) late 90s, but I was working with simpler ingredients at the time.
The smoothie I described in this post was admittedly complicated— lots in there. But simple is ok too! This is a great article from a dietary expert who definitely goes the simple route with smoothies – https://www.aol.com/cheap-unprocessed-longevity-smoothie-blue-134744729.html
I noticed he mentioned walnuts; I keep reading about the benefits of walnuts specifically for fighting cancer – along with all tree nuts actually. Definitely recommended for cancer patients, along with everyone else to prevent becoming a cancer patient!
looks amazingly delicious!
Thanks – yeah, it is tasty! I’m finding that the nut butter really enchances the overall flavor. I’m minimizing sugar as much as possible, so agave syrup works as a great sugar-free sweetener.
I don’t think it has ever been easier to reduce sugar (excluding our nut and berry ancestors) than now. It’s great to see how you use that advantage in such tasty ways.
