Sunday Lucid Sunday

A M-F chemoradiation schedule means that Sunday is a relatively lucid day — the brain fog dissipates. On this Fathers Day, I have been scurrying through to-do lists, taking advantage of this opportunity when I’m thinking clearly.

As Princess Kate rightly mentioned a few days ago:

….as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days. On those bad days you feel weak, tired and you have to give in to your body resting. But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well.

Just two weeks of chemoradiation to go! I’m feeling excited about that, along with some trepidation, as the final week (and the week after) are typically the worst in terms of side effects.

Yesterday, I was still chemo-foggy so I did simple things, such as picking a bunch of strawberries from out front. It’s amazing that all of these strawberry bushes came from a few starts that someone gave me, a few years ago.

I mentioned previously that one of chemo’s silver linings — for me anyway — is an enhanced appreciation of music. It also enhances my appreciation for flowers, and the simple vegetal life around our house.

Another thing I’m doing this weekend is charging my new electric car for the first time. The 2024 Hyundai IONIQ6 is a birthday gift to myself. I must say, I am loving it. I’ve been wanting an electric vehicle for a long time.

Here it is charging — yes, it’s a tight fit in the driveway. Good thing I lost a lot of weight over the past few months …

  1. Nice work on the strawberries! We just picked some. they were small but extremely tasty and we made Strawberry Shortcake. I love that you harvested a nice bowl of them off of a few starts from years ago.

  2. Hey, Jonathan, wanted you to know we are thinking of you and sending you love/support. You and Gretchen are on somewhat similar timelines…. her first course of chemo ends this Wednesday, 6/19. Then she is on to round #2 starting 6/26 (the more toxic stuff called “Red Devil”). Anyway, love the breathing routine (gonna mention that to Gretchen), and keep at it. We got your back–and remember, you are “Shaw-some”!!
