Drop Cloths

Went out for a walk in the East Village from 5:30 – 6:30 this evening. It’s getting gusty out there. The park is closed.

On 10th St, I saw a stream of evacuees — carrying mattresses and toting suitcases — headed west from the Zone A region just a few blocks over.

My local bodega pinned up a public declaration of bravery — they’ll be open tomorrow and they’ll be selling drop cloths! I had never heard of these before today.

By 6:30pm, the streets were starting to empty out (subways shut down at 7). I stopped by the Mediterranean Grill — where you can pick up a huge falafel sandwich for just $2.99 (includes pickles! I heartily recommend it). I asked the guy behind the counter if they’ll close early tonight. He frowned and said no. Then he paused and said “well, we’ll see how it goes out there.”
